Designer Suzanne Reheinstein is known for her elegant and classic interiors that are rich with couture details. Inspired by her southern upbringing, Rheinstein's interiors are formal and gracious. Even though she currently lives in Southern California (and has lived there for quite some time), Rheinstein's Christmas decor is full of traditional grace and refinement. Let's have a peak at her beautiful home dressed for the season!
The front door is red all year long, of course, but feels especially festive in December. It is adorned simply with a wreath of greenery and simple green satin ribbons.
The elegant foyer is always welcoming, but is bursting with holiday warmth from the gorgeous, thick garland of fresh greenery, pinecones, and satin ribbon. A huge spray of white lilies on top of the piano look good any time of year.
The stunning living room features traditional Christmas decorations done sparingly and elegantly. Just a tree, a bowl of cloved oranges, and a garden on the mantle.
The tree is festooned with subtle gold and jewel toned ornaments that compliment the colors scheme of the room and lots of twinkling lights in the same soft gold tone.
On the other side of living room, a fire crackles away under a festive and elegantly decorated mantel.
The garland is made from lush greenery, pinecones, and satin ribbon, similar to the garland on the stair bannister in the foyer, but is spiked with fragrant, vibrant citrus (especially appropriate in California).
The kitchen features another simple wreath accented with plain satin ribbon. The same ribbon is used to display greeting cards flanking the doorway to the butler's pantry.
In the butler's pantry, a festive bar is a welcome sight no matter what time of the year! A spray of fresh greens decorates the window above.
You'd expect a formal, sit-down dinner in such a classic and formal dining room, but I love this elegant holiday buffet! And how great are the statues draped in garlands and ribbons? As always, the prettiest thing in a house is a good sense of humor.
And what is more gorgeous than a silver punch set?? A silver punch set dressed in green and cranberries, obviously.
Continuing the classic refinement of the decorations throughout the home, an antique buffet is dressed for the holidays with simple, blooming clusters of white amaryllis, housed in silver wine coolers.
A marble topped console table is home to more antique silver displayed simply, and a large spray of seasonal greens and berries.
I've been mooning over Suzanne Rheinstein's beautiful home since I received her coffee table book as a Christmas gift a few years ago. However, what I find so wonderful about her holiday decorating is how seamlessly her Christmas decor fits into the overall style of her home. Elegant, refined, seasonal yet restrained, this holiday home is eminently graceful.
