Colorful Millbrook Country Retreat by Ashley Whittaker

A country house full of saturated color? Yes, please! In genteel, hilly, hunt country of Millbrook, NY you'd think a renovated historic home would be swathed in creams, ivories, and pastels. Not so in Ashley Whittaker's latest project, which is chock full of punchy hues. If you're a Foo Dog Blog (or even Foo Dog Ate My Homework) afficianado, you know I'm a full-on fan girl for Ashley Whittaker. Her work is so classic, so eminently livable, so unrelentingly lovely - I aspire to it. This country home is no exception.

The elegant living room is a symphony of purples and greens. The walls are a gentle glossy aubergine and provide a dramatic yet totally cheery backdrop. I adore a flawlessly matching, deep aubergine velvet sofa, and the mix of florals on the pair of club chairs and that tufted arm chair. And, oh baby, I am all about 1) that Ming-style coffee table AND 2) that round tufted ottoman outfitted in fabulous green animal print. Also, those plum Christopher Spitzmiller (another denizen of Millbrook, whom I imagine to sit around his fabulous home ruling this rural hamlet as a preppy, organic-egg-collecting pasha) are divine.

Even thgouh I am a dedicated lover of prints, this chartreuse tufted chaise is the star of the room for me. My face turns into the "heart eyes" emoji when I look at it. Don't miss that little ikat bolster pillows or the Gallerie Des Lampes sconces (tres fancy).

Love the delicate femininity of a scrolling Venetian mirror contrasted with the hearty, American flavor of this oak shelf styled beautifully and simply.

This dining room is making my heart sing. Grasscloth walls are trimmed out in nailhead studded ribbon and are the perfect supporting players to those gorgeous floral drapes (complete with their own fanciful tape trim). An antique cabinet is stuffed to the gills with blue and white porcelain and features a unusual double arch design. The happy, graphic, white Elkins loop chairs are a fun modern foil to the overall soft traditional look of the space.

Yes, yes, I know its the perfect room. There I said it. It had to be said. Marine blue gloss everything, floral Bennison roman shades, interesting petite library lights, fabulous blue Toile de Nantes club chairs, window seats, Stark Antelope rug, cushy velvet couch, ribbon fretwork pillows, contemporary painting above the fireplace for contrast, I mean I could go on and on but I need to wipe the drool off of my keyboard.

This cherry bomb of a window seat nook graces the breakfast area. A perfect spot to sip your morning coffee and gaze out at the view. Love the blue ticking against the red paneling.

The master bedroom is pretty and serene in creams and blues. The woven wallcovering is textural and beautiful, adding subtle pattern and movement. The tufted headboard featuring absolutely charming blue floral details inside the button tufts, and the scalloped side table adds more country sweetness. The little, floral D. Porthaut sham and faux bois print lamp (Spitzmiller, again) bring in a bit of the pastoral setting. Just so pretty.

You gotta love how AWhitz matches her floral dress to the club chairs. But also, UGH, why can't I see a full picture of this room?? These little 8-shot House Beautiful stories are pretty much killing me. I know there are like 6 more amazing rooms in this house I can't see and it makes me bananas. Reeeegardless, another flawless project from my design-lady-crush, reminding us all to stop trying to be cool - pretty IS cool.
